All Brides are curious to know what Belle’s wedding gown looks like in the much anticipated movie Beauty and The Beast! Be inspired by Le Secret Royal new collection from Galia Lahav and find your own fairytale gown.
“And above all, watch with glittering eyes the whole world around you because the greatest secrets are always hidden in the most unlikely places. Those who don’t believe in magic will never find it.” -Roald Dahl
To believe in love is the motto for the new Galia Lahav collection. You will find what you are looking for if you choose to see beyond your set boundaries. Le Secret Royal expresses deep love for couture through our extravagant silhouettes, floral design elements and glamorous shades of pink. Inspired by the royals, their essence and poise, Galia advanced her designs to something unfamiliar yet extraordinary.
The sophisticated floral arrangements along the body of the gowns are made to replicate the captivating sense of strolling through royal flower gardens. Through decorative design and rose color shades, petal details are evident through Galia’s creations. As the dresses are bountiful in silk tulle embroideries and chantilly lace, this is a collection for queens. With this collection Galia wants you to believe in love and you will find your magic. You are a Queen.
From its great Nile, praised in poetry, literature, music and art, irrigating the imaginations of Arabs for generations, to its people, their ingenuity and preservation of culture, Egypt has been a source of light, inspiration and richness for civilizations; a guardian of Arab memory. For Spring Summer 2017, ELIE SAAB pays tribute to an Arab epoch that left us with a priceless cultural and artistic heritage.
The ELIE SAAB Spring Summer 2017 woman, is a reflection of the golden era and a muse for the creative mind. She is a woman who appreciates artistic excellence, cultural wealth and sophistication: strong yet delicate, elegant and free.
This epoch was also a time when Egyptian and Arab cinema, with its iconic actors and actresses, was at its peak. A beautiful period that saw the effervescence of producers and directors, passionate about the silver screen and this “art-nouveau”, like producer Assia Dagher and directors Henry Barakat, Youssef Chahine and Hassan Al Imam.
“The Birth Of Light” ELIE SAAB’s Spring Summer 2017 Haute Couture particular inspiration, was a scene from the film “I Don’t Sleep”, considered one of the most beautiful of Arabic cinema, where Faten Hamama, also known as the “Lady of the Arabic screen”, arrives with Mariam Fakhr Eddine to a party in a long gown, elegant in its simplicity, embroidered on the shoulders and sparkling with crystals. It is a scene in which time is suspended, allowing but a moment to contemplate her beauty and the strength that lies behind it.
And now, as the ‘stars’ of that era still sparkle in our memories, impacting our present, and the songs of Oum Kalthoum still challenge creation while explaining the meaning of love; that golden age of Arabic cinema and art looks brighter than ever, as the admiration we hold for this illustrious past is not a nostalgic reminiscence at all. It is, on the contrary, a continued appreciation of a period that helped build the culture of entire generations. With this in mind, ELIE SAAB travelled back in time, drawing inspiration from the everlasting pool of talents from that era: to a scene where Leila Mourad’s enchanting voice meets Nour el Hoda’s passion for singing. Where Mohammad Abdel Wahab’s artistic stature converses with Omar Sharif’s charm and allure. Where Hind Rostom and Sabah’s seductive natures flirt with Farid Al Atrash’s sensitivity, and where Shadia’s light-hearted yet mature talent comes across Abdel Halim Hafez’s charisma and romance.
Paying tribute to this woman, ELIE SAAB reveals a sharp and creative take on Oriental patterns and architectural lines that form symbols and star shapes, appearing on long, voluminous or mid-length dresses. Intricate embroidery illustrates palm trees that reflect the height and grace of those in Doumyat city while unforgettable scenes of boats dancing on the Nile recall, in a dream-like haze, the collection’s light, fluid fabrics that are constructed to float upon its breeze.
Embroidery inspired by Arabic calligraphy also covers smooth and transparent fabrics such as tulle, lace and mousseline. And while some silhouettes are soft, with fabric delicately draping around the shoulders, other angular cuts reveal parts of the back and emphasize the beauty of the neck. Accessories merge the modernity of form with the classic appeal of stones. They are a reinterpretation of styles from an epoch where ‘starlets’ wore striking gowns, painted their lips, and embraced their femininity. It is through nuances of grey and shades of blue, white and blush that ELIE SAAB injects light and color into those black and white images that are immortalized in our memories.
And it is his creative take that brings those magical moments of the past back to life. ~
We are closing the week with the Runway Report from Zuhair Murad Spring Summer 2017 Haute Couture show, FIRES WALTZ.
A journey to Japan inspired Zuhair Murad’s Couture collection, in particular the spellbinding fireworks the House founder and artistic director
witnessed on the island of Miyajima.
An explosion of coloured light cloaked with the darkest night, then reflected in the shadowy waters below. This is the harmony, the silken thread, running throughout the collection. Delicately re-embroidered Swarovski Crystals become incandescent filaments lighting up a jade taffeta creation sensually enveloping around the body.
The waves lapping the island are transformed into organic draping; knotting and pleating poetically figure the foamy breakers. The colours are natural, only more intense: moss green, fiery red, pink fuchsia, boldly contrasted with consummate skill.
The sky, crackling with Lurex electricity, or in soie perlée, adorns, here a slip dress, there a corseted ball gown.
For a contemporary twist, a nod in the direction of the eighties delivers a more angular structure, with bouffant sleeves, coattails, and DJ details richly decorated with beads.
The coming-together of the natural and the modern – timelessly elegant, opulently contemporary: such is the 2017 couture of Zuhair Murad. ~
We are very exited to take you to the backstage at DIOR Couture Show Spring Summer 2017 and learn how Peter Philips, Creative and Image Director for Dior Makeup created a luminous look, a face with the perfect glow.
“I delved into the mysterious atmosphere and the play on seduction in this collection, which presents the ‘hide & reveal’ aspect of a masked ball. The sophistication of Stephen Jones’ creations and the masks on some of the looks were also a source of inspiration for creating a poetic gaze. This is a young woman with a modernized pre-Raphaelite beauty. It was essential to emphasize her soft luminosity and sensuality.”

Diorblush #756 Rose Cherie – (sub Rosy Glow).
Diorskin Nude Air Luminizer #001
“To get this ultra-luminous and natural glow effect, I didn’t want too much texture. I needed to keep the fine texture of the skin, so I applied Diorskin Forever & Ever Wear Primer as the base, then Dior Forever Fluid Foundation. Next I perked up the cheeks with a light rosy cloud of Diorblush #756 Lastly, I applied touches of Diorskin Nude Air Luminizer #001 to obtain a pearly light at strategic points: the brow bone, the bridge of the nose, the Cupid’s bow.” – Peter Philips

“The eyes are nude with no mascara and pale eyelids unified with Diorshow Mono Eyeshadow #317 Metaphore) and a line of the new Diorshow Khôl #529 Beige. This created a unified base to bring out the play on the starry glitter, which I created several variations of to personalise each girl. In one look, the glitter was applied in a “Stardust” shower on the cheekbones swept up towards the temples. Then I also chose the metallic purity of a single, bigger, more ‘rebel attitude’ star placed either on the inner corner of each eye or at the centre of the lower lid.” – Peter Philips

A themed style shoot arrived from the UK, inspired in the epic movie Narnia.
The beauty of the wintery snow scenes and the warmth of the greenery after ‘the thaw’ totally suited to this time of year. There were so many options and it became instantly exciting. I didn’t want to totally recreate the film, but moreso have the film inspire the shoot in a subtle way. I wanted the photos to be exciting for people to look at but yet provide inspiration and achievable looks for couples searching for ideas for their own big day.
So what were the key Narnia elements on our wish list for the day? Well, we definitely wanted the Snow Queen, Prince Caspian, the Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe, the forest, the sparkle and warmth of winter, and of course some snow. If you’re a fan of the books you may spot the details quickly… or maybe you will have to look a little harder. – Terri Pugh owner at Tides Events.

“Being a huge lover of all things Christmas, I wanted to create a styled shoot inspired by this holiday but stepping out of the traditional theme we often see – red & green, snowflakes and Santa. Instead, with the help of an incredible team of vendors, my vision of “Urban Christmas” was brought to life at one of the best restaurants in the city of Edmonton. Focusing on keeping the shoot modern yet reflective of a traditional Christmas, we kept the vibe moody & cozy, embodying the feel that Christmas brings. Combining a ton of evergreens with lush flowers and copper metallic accents throughout the shoot captured the essence of the theme. Modern hand-made shapes called Himmeli, which are a traditional Finnish Christmas ornament, were brought into nearly every aspect of the design – flower centrepiece runner, the bride’s gorgeous hairpiece, the groom’s boutonniere, the cake topper and of course as tree ornaments. The Himmeli shape even inspired our stationery design. Graced by an incredible two-piece gown, our bride was glowing as she stood hand-in-hand with her groom in front of the Christmas tree, making promises of love & happiness to one-another. We had the best time creating this shoot and hope that it helps to inspire couples who want a Christmas wedding that is slightly less predictable in design.” – Sandra Bettina Weddings and Events.

GRASSE AT THE HEART OF MISS DIOR
In love with the provencal terroir, Christian Dior found inspiration therein for his first legendary parfumes.
The May Rose, that rare beauty of hundred petals is cherished above all others by Dior, for it holds a special place in the history of the house indeed. Christian Dior himself planted entire fields of it on the grounds at the Chateau de la Colle Noire. Today Dior is making the couturier’s dream live: La Colle has been restored to its original state, and once again, thousands of may Rose bushes have been planted by Armelle Janody from the –Clos de Callian- which reserves the entire harvest of may Rose for Dior perfumes.
The opening notes of red fruit, raspberry, pomegranate and blackcurrant accord are heightened by the spicy, teasing tingle of pink peppercorn, appealing to the senses, the fragrance springs from the bottle.
The magnificent Grasse rose absolute unfurls its sensual accords. The Rosa Centiflora, diffuses its honeyed and peppery notes. In perfect harmony with the beautifully Rosa Damascena, the exquisite May is jubilant! The duo of Roses embraces a radiant Peony accord.
A floral perfume, Dior style, in which nature is a signature and beautiful flowers are an ideal.
